AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. WRESTLING COMPETITIONS. The Opera House was packed to the doors , last liight, when all the contests in the initial rounds of-the amateur wrestling competitions aiid amateur boxing championships were off. The wrestling bouts proved interesting, but were not so scientific as would have been liked. Lovers of "the noblo art" had no reason to complain in .the matter of,.tho number of scts-to, the programme not being concluded until 11.45 p.m. In a majority of tho contests a knock-out blow was the deciding factor. There should be another crowded house this evening, when the finals will be contested. ... . The following are tho results:—' . , WRESTLINC. , Heavy Welshts, Lanaiizo (Belvedero- Club) v. Mnndy.— • Lanauze, .who was shorter in •stature than his opponent, but more powerfully built, < secured first fair by means of a full buttock within Tivo seconds. There was no fall in the second bout, which was given to Mundy because he. had done the most work. Tho third bout was won by Lanauze, who gained a fall within a minutp and a half. Lanauzo was, therefore,: declared the' winner. Light Weight's. Lewis (Belvedere Club) v./M'Carthy.-s-Lewis 'won the first bout in fifteen" seconds by means of a neck holt. The second bout, which lasted twenty-six seconds, was also secured by Lewis by means of a. similar holt. Lewis was therefore adjudged tho winner. Scantlebury v. Stewart (belvedere .Club).— Stewart, who was much tailor than his opponent, won the initial bout in 3min. 15sec. by means of a flying fall.
