(BY TELEGBAPH. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT). Ounedin, Juno 16. Mr. Donald Roid, M.P. for Taieri, speaking at Mosgiel to-night, formally announced that ho would not again offer himsolf for re-election. His reasons wero ontiroly of a .personal character. Ho did not see how he could carry on. his professional business and give to his political duties at tho saino timo the attention they ought to receive. Each required a good deal of attention, and a professional man could not absent himself for fivo months a year without detriment to his business. That was tho main consideration which had influenced him in deciding to retire from politics. At the end of the speech it was resolved, on tho motion of the Mayor, that tho meeting extremely regretted Mr. Reid's retirement, and thanked him for his oscelJent scrviccs as representative of tho Taieri, wishing him health and prosperity in his privato life.
