Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Avery gave a very pleasant tea at her homo in Kelburnc as a farewell to her sister, Miss Perry, who is leaving for England by tho Athenic on Thursday. Miss Perry is going to study art in Germany, and will there join another sis'ter, who is also an art student. A number of her friends from Khaiidallali and other suburbs were present to wish her bon voyage and all success. The tea tablo was charmingly decorated with purple irises and largo violets, and in tho drawing-room were prettily'arranged. primroses, yellow chrysanthemums, and autumn leaves. Mrs. Tyleo, Mrs. Avery's sister from the Wairarapa, Miss Sturtevant,' and Miss Marshall helped to servo tho afternoon tea. Mrs. Avery received her guests in a very pretty frock of cream crcpo-de-chine. Miss Perry was in black chiffon taffetas, Mrs. Tyleo in cream. Among the many guests present wore Mrs. and Miss Webster, Mrs. and Miss Vickcrs, Mrs. Jameson, Misses Turner (2), Mrs. J. P. Campboll, Mrs. and Miss Hamilton, Mrs. Picken, Sirs. Holmdon, Miss Palmer, Mrs. Drummond, and Mrs. 11. Richmond. . Mrs. A. L. Wilson has gone to Auckland to be present at the marriage of her niece, Miss Irene Kenny, and will bo away for three months. , Mrs. Duncan gave a party yesterday afternoon, when the following ladies were her. guests:—Mesdame3 Bright, Nowmail, Johnston, Pearson, Rawson, Morrison, A. Crawford, A. jDuncan, Mackintosh, Grace, Biss, and C. Poarce. Their Excellencies the Governor and Ladv Plunkbt are to arrive -at Palmerston North on Thursday, Juno 24, and a big reception ha 3 been arranged for them on that day. Miss M. B. Sladdon, daughter of the lato Mr. Dilnot Sladden, arrived from London by the Corinthic yesterday. She was met at Hobart by her brother and sister, Mr. P. J. Sladden and Miss V. Sladden.
