BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.

RETURN OF RELIEF FOR, MAY. Tho .weekly meeting of tho Benevolent Trustees held yesterday was attended.by the Rev. W. A: Evans (chairman), Mrs. Darvall, and Messrs. D. Robertson, R. Smith, H. Cook, and J. Smith. On the recommendation of tho Finance Committco, accounts amounting to £173 16s. Dd. wera passed for payment.. Tho number of inmates at the Ohiro Homo was reported to be 67 males and 29 females, a total, of 96, as compared with 95 last week.

A.return prepared by tho secretary showing tho amount of relief granted during May was laid on ,tho table. The number of rations was 4214, value £65 3s. IOJd. Grants for rent totalled £48 55.,' casual relief £4 lis. 4d.. clothing, bedding, etc., £3 Bs. 9d.: total, £121 Bs. llsd. For tho month of May, 1907, 4625 rations wcro granted, so that this year showed, a decrease of 411, though it was an increase of 655 on the averago for the past three years. This increase, however, was duo to the fact that tho year 1906-7 was a very light ono, and brought the average down. Rent granted in May, 1907, amounted to £51 195., and tho three-year, averago was £55, so that last May showed a decrease of £3 14s. on last year and £6 15s. on tho avorago. Tho number of cases other than "casuals" dealt with, stated the return, was 69, made up of 27 widows, 6 married women separated from their husbands, 16 married couples, 16 single persons, and 5 orphans. - Tho number of persons who received relief waß 88 adults and 108 children; total 188. •In addition, 10 males and 1 female woro afforded casual charitablo aid, and'lo3 persons were relieved iu the Ohiro Home. The usual applications f6r relief were also dealt with by tiio Board. 1
