"AMERICAN MILLIONAIRES.
PRESIDENT'S CAUSTIC MESSAGE. President- Roosevelt, in the Message, to Congress of April 27, briefly'reported by cable, soys that every far-sighted patriot should protest first of all against, the growth of that evil thing called consciousness, and utters a warning that, a class griovanco such tis. tho abuse of the proccss of injuuetion by employers, if left too long without, remedy, breeds class consciousness and therefore class resentment. ' .
Tho President condemns the demagogue ..who pi;eaches. ,envy ,of wealth, but says that " his counterpart in evil is ;to be found in that particular kind of multi-millionairo who is almost, least enviable, and certainly ono of the least admirable, of all our citizens— the man of whom it has well been said that his face has grown hard and cruel, while his body has jjrown soft, whoso son is a fool, and whoso daughter is a foreign princess, whose nominal pleasures arc at the bo3t those of tasteless and extravagant.luxury, but whoso real delight'and real lifework, are tho accumulation and use of power 111 the most sordid and least elevating form. The Message is accompanied by an appendix giving in ftdl a report recently made by a Finance. Commission appointed at Boston. Charges made in it of collusion on the. part of the loading steel manufacturers of ."the country in submitting tenders for tho construction of a drawbridge are cited by Mr. Roosevelt as an illustration of the need of national supervision of big corporations.
