Tho chairman of tho Christchurch Tramway Board, in tho courso of his annual statement made at tho Board meeting to-day, said tho Board was .in a position to olcctrify tho lines on which tho steam service is n °w nl!1 * Tho Board had considered tho testing of new districts by subsidised coach services,' but tho probable results had compelled the Board to .postpone the matter in the, meantime. Statutory proceedings in connection with tho oxtension to Ilalswell should bo well under way in tho courso of a week. New trailers were on order so that, the old rolling stock would bo reserved for holiday traffic only. At tho samo meeting tho Staff Committee reported that for tho sixteen days during which tho system of not setting off surpluses as against, deficiances in regard to tho conductor's cash, the daily average surplus of the whole staff was 3s. 7d. per head as compared with 12s. 7d. per head for tho sixteen days prior to the new arrangement. The a vera ceo deficiency was 225. Sri. before and 16s. Bd. since. In view of those figures the Committee could not recommend any alteration of its. previous report recommending that the new system should bo given thrco months' trial.
