THE PRICE OF MEAT.
Sir, —I wish to dl-aw your 'attention to a statement in your local columns of June 9 in connection with tho meat trade. Therein it was stated that a big meat company— presumably the Gear Co.—brings into town for sale in their shops -quantities of surplus forequartors of mutton.from sheep cut up for export in joints, thus hemp able to materially undersell the small butchers, and placing them at a great disadvantage in trading. Such, however, is not tho case, ,as the Gear Company have never dono what is suggested by your paragraph. I trust, in fairness to_ tho company referred to, you will insert this contradiction. —I am, etc. f E. D. BARBER,. President Wellington Butchers' Union of Employers. Jram JV
