With a,view to keeping the works going, the proprietors of' the Lithgow Ironworks have modified their proposals in regard to reductions of wages. ■- ; ■ They now suggest. that' the amount proposed to be deducted from wages (5 to 12J' per cent.) shpuld .be held by the firm till September, 1 when,' if the Manufactures Encouragement (Iron Bonus) Bill be passod, the mqney would be rofunded to the men. If the Bill should not ,be passed, the firm would then—under this proposal—retain tho money and .again confer with the men on the question of wages.
