PALMERSIW. ' The Premier, will'recoivo a deputation regarding tho-Foxton Harbour Board here today. Delegates of local bodies will be present. On Saturday morning His Honour, Mr. Justice Cooper, heard the appeal case, John Salmons (appellant) v. Albert Adams (respondent). The. appeal was against the decision of Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., in a ease concorning the commission earned by the respondent over a sale of property. His Honour announced that ho would read the evidence before giving his decision. The 'alleged libel case, W. Hammer v. the oditor of the Foxton " Herald," has been settled by consent of tho parties, who have agreed to settlo costs between themselves. MASTERTON. ' Although the woatlier is at present very mild, influenza is prevalent. Somo of the cases are of a severe nature. The Native Lands Commission is expected to sit in Masterton in July, when it is understood that somo very important business will bo transacted. Tho Te Ore Ore Natives havo raised a sum of £20 by means of weekly dances, and it is proposed to devote the amount to installing tho meeting-house with an acetylene-gas service. The new Masterton technical school building is well 011 its way towards completion. It is a massive two-story structure, built in brick, and situated near tho Masterton Park. Mr. A. "ft 7 . Eogg,„M.P., is to deliver a pre-sessional address at Masterton on Thursday nest. FEILDING. Feilding had a unique experience on Friday night in the holding of a Maori concert in aid of the furnishing funds of the new technical school. 'Che programme was entirely'provided by Maoris from tho schools at Tokorangi and Aorangi, between whom there is an ancient rivalry. • There was a competition between the two factions, and the verdict of the judges (Messrs. Hcctor Booth and Fred Pirani) being in disagreement, the opinion of the big audience which crowded the Drill Hall was taken, and the event was declared a dead heat. The concert was a great success, artistically and financially. The now director of the school, Mr. Fossey,- who has just arrived from England and Auckland, says ho has never "known a technical school get such a unique advertisement.
Mr. Ernest Short returned oil Saturday afternoon to.his homo at Parorangi, from which he has been absent through illness for some four months. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P. for Wellington Central,- was in Feilding on Friday. He is spending a few days with. Mr. Shannon at Stanway. EKETAHUNA. William Ashdown, 18 yoars of age, was arrested on Saturday by Dctectivo Williams for the theft of-a registered letter at Atcar. Accused was brought boforo a Justice of tho Peaco, and was remanded till Juno 22. Bail was at £50 in accused's recognisance, and two sureties'of £50 each. Rail was forthcoming; . ' FEATHEIISTON. _ In committco on Friday tho County Council decided to increase tho, wages of Overseer Davis from lis. to 12s. a day. The citizens of Foatherst-on held a ball on Friday night in the Town Hall, when,a most enjoyable function resulted. The floor was in capital order, and oxcellent music, was provided by Messrs. M. Maguiro (piano), J. Maguiro (cornet), and W. M'Lean (violin). The duties of M.C.'s wero ably carriod out by Messrs. J. -W. Card, M. 13; Tail!, J. A. M'Carty, and C. J. Carlyon. The supper arrangements', were excellent, and 1 rollect much credit oh the ladies. Excellent progress is . being made with the district road, metalling.
