BOXING.
The Wellington Boxing Association has received a communication from Sir Joseph Ward at Napior, stating that ho will be pleased to extend his patronage to the Association,. but regretting that owing to his Northern engagements, ho will bd prevented from being present in person at the tourney noxt Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Mr. C. B. Rogers, vice-president of tho Wellington Association, and treasurer of the Northern Boxing Association, and Mr. J. Sexton, secretary of the Taranaki Boxing Association, are coming to Wellington for tlio fixture, whilo twclvo officials from the Manawatu Association have also signified their intention of being present. Mr. W. F. Corbett, the Australian representative of the Wellington Boxing Association, has sent word to the effect that ho has arranged for T. Green, of Sydney, to meet J. Godfrey in a fifteen rounds contest at Wellington on Soptember 1. Mr. Corbett points out, however, that Green will be conceding Godfrey 101b. in weight, and asks if it would not bo advisable to secure a man about Godfrey's weight, two or three of whom aro offering.
