Tho compound forms of the imperative in the activo voice are very rarely used, but it is possible they may be occasionally required to give exactitude to an expression. Examples:—" Mi deziras, ke li estu min atendanta en la stacidomo je la dua horo morgau posttagmcze", "I dosiro that he be awaiting me in tho Btation at two o'clock to-morrow afternoon"; "Estas neccse, ke li estu fininta sian laboron, jo la tria horo", "It is necessary that he have finished his work at three o'clock". THE PARTICIPLES. There are three forms of the participles, viz..-—The changeable or adjectival in "a"; tho unchangeable or adverbial in "e"; and tho • substantival in "o." In the active voice tho • adjectival is formed by adding "anta," "inta," "onta," to the root of tho verb, as: —Present, "skribanta," "writing" (lit. being writing); past, "skribiuta/' "having written"; future, "skribonta," "about to write." In the passive voice, by adding "ata," "ita," "ota," ..as:—Present, "skribata," "written" or "boing written"; past, "skribita," ,"been written" or "having been written"; future, "skribota," "about (or going to bb written)." The active participles preceded by tho auxiliary verb "esti," "to be," in its various moods and tenses, form the compound tenses of the activo voice. The passive participles with the verb "esti" form all tho moods and tenses in the passive voice. Participles, like' adjectives, agreo in number and case with tho nouns or pronouns to which refer. Examples—" Ni estas vidintaj la yiron," "we have seen tho man"; "shi vidis la virojn batantajn sian edzon," "she saw the man beating her husband"; "Ni vidas krimojn olfaratajn chiutago sur la Gtr.atoj," "wo see crimes being perpotrated daily in tho stretts." _ All the participles can be used as adjectives, and also as nouns and adverbs, by substituting "o" for "a" for a noun, and "e" for "a" for an adverb. The words still retain the signification of the tense of the participle. Participles and participial adverbs in tho activo voice govern the accusative. Examples, in the active voice:— Participle nouns, as "La leganto," "tho reader' (person now reading); "La leginto." "the reader" (person who has been reading); "La legonto," "the reader"' (person about to road). . Examples" La loganto havas bonan vochon, sod la legiuto havis pli bonan; mi kredas, tamen, ke, la legonto havos la plej bonan vochon el chiuj"; "thi (present) reader has a good voice, but the (previous) reader had a better; I believo, howqver, that the (coming) reader will have, the best voice of all." " Tin chi uico oktipis la grandan pensanton ghin la lino. do jia vivo '; "this idea occupied the groat thinker up to the. end of his life."
