HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The.monthly meeting of tho Hutt County Council was held yesterday. There were present: Councillors W. D. Galloway (in the chair), J. Wakeham, M. J. Lynch, M. W. Welch, T. Edwards, and J. AVhiteman. A report by a committee regarding W. J. Howell's . slaughter-house at Paraparaumu was received. Councillor Whiteman said that he had had a look at the place, and found '-that tho buildings were all right. The piggery, ho said, would have to be removed, as it might become a nuisance. Councillor Lynch stated that the slaugh-ter-house was too close to tho private dwellings and he thought the licenso should not bo granted. The chairman agreed with the last speaker, and said that it would decrease the value of property in tho vicinity. Tli'.' licenso was not granted. Councillor Lynch abstained from voting, as he was personally interested. At a later stage, Mr. Howell waited on the Council, and desired to know . who the objcctors were. Tho clerk said that ono of tho objections was on the ground that a stream would bo polluted. ' • After a lengthy discussion, the question of granting the license was deferred .till tho ne it meeting, and the original motion was rescinded. y Mr. F. Holtom waited on the Council in reference to compensation for the dedication of land for a road. There were seven chain's in question. It was decided to grant £20 in compensation. The Inspector of Works (Mr.'J. W. Cudby) reported that since last meeting the metalling of the different roads had been going on, a fair amount having beon done on the Pahau.tanui—Judgfor'd Road. The order for metal, for tho Pareniata-Pahautamii length had bo'.:i supplied. Hayward's Road had bean generally repaired, and tho water channels cleaned whero, most needed. The Waiuui-o-Mata bridge had been strengthened by putting an extra pier under a weak' span. Repairs to the decking had also- been made. The Lowry Bay—Day's Bay Road was rutting badly in parts of the new work. Ho rccommonded that, a man bo kept constantly on ,tho roid during the winter months. If neglected, a good doal of the money spent on it would be of little benefit. In the Epuni riding, tho greater part of the month had beon spent in raking and attending to metal put on last month. The gorse on Park Avenue Road had been pulled out with Horses, and should now be easily kept down. Footpaths should be repaired, and all vehicles compelled to keep olf the paths. , The clear-, ing of'tile water-tables and repairs generally on tho Normandale and Mungaraki roads had been proceeding during the month, andtho.amounts authorised had been spont. ; . In the _ Mungaroa riding, metalling was going on in several places. The roads formed and motalled on the Golden .Gate estate and • the Bonzies estate were completed to his satisfaction. The report was adopted. It was decided to pay Mr. Hall £2 per annum for use of a right of way at Haywards A letter was received from Mr. W. H. Field,. M.P., in reforenco to grants from tho Government. It was decided to thank Mr.' Field, and apply for others required. The tender of Messrs. Anderson and.Galloway, at £13, Was accepted for a: pound lat Pahautaniii. ~ The Defence Department advised :that the. claim 'of £1 10s. for pound fees on;, Trooper Whittington's horsb would be paid. ■■ Th-i letter was received. ■ Tho Department of' Lands advised that the following grants were available: Harris's Road, £200 Moonshine—Upper Hutt, . £200; Moonshine—Wainui,' £150 • ..Waikanao' —Upper Hutt, £200. ■ ■" ■> Accounts amounting to £1017 15s.
