The • directors rcommend the 'usual .dividend and bonus of .£1 10s. per share, along with the' bonus of ss. 6d. per share from the shareholders' life and annuity profits and .the balance remaining to be carried'forward at the credit'of profit-and loss, after-writing off . ,£150,000 for depreciation of. investments held on fire account, will -be .£403,015, as .compared with .£302,176 at the end ( 6f 1906. The following items are taken from the "New Zealand Mines Record," just to hand:— The yield from tho New Zealand Consolidated group of mines at Reefton during the year 1907 realised. ,£132,275. 19 s,. 2d. The Progress Mines crushed and treated 55,305 tons of quartz for 22,8250z.7divt., - value ,£87,805 Bs. 3d.; the. Wealth" Of Nations~crushed and treated 13,090 tons for 6-1500z.-sdwt., value .£24,535 13s. lid.; and the Golden Fleece crushed and treated I 11,991' tons for 51600z. 14dwt. 4gr., value ,£19,934 17s. The total quantity crushed from the three mines was 80,986 tons, yielding 34,3360z. 6dwt. 4gr., for a value of .£132,275 19s. 2d.; or at the rate of about, SJdwt. .per ton. Yet some of the Rand financiers have, given it forth to tho world that nothing less than an ouuee of gold to the ton of quartz would pay to mine in Australia or New Zealand. Tiny Department lias been notified that discoveries havo been made 011 Cape Brett Peninsula and at Itussoll Township which it is hoped may lead to the oponing-np of payable goldfields; and the party which made the discoveries has given notice of intention to claim the rewards offered by Government'for the openingup of new fiolds. The conditions pertaining to rowards are set forth in sections 353-357 of the Mining Act, 1905, section 3 of* the Alining Act Amendment Act, 1905, and clauses 130-133 of the regulations. The Rise apd Shine Gold-dredging Company, which has two dredges operating on the Clutha River at - Lowburn, near Cromwell, has_ completed the most successful financial year in. tho history of the company. The total gold won', for the year'was of the value of .£13,782 17s. 9d., being.<£2l46 17s. more than last year; whereas the expenses have been reduced by .£435. Nino dividends of Is. each were paid in the 12 months ending March 31, 1908, and .£4OO was . added .to reserve, which now stands at «£6OO. •The claims of the company have been resnrYCj>ed as-two claims, and a very valuable freehold of 23 acres was acquired on advantageous terms.' The total area now held by the company is 143 acres. Both dredges are in good order, and have worked steadily throughout the . year.
