Thoro is every promise of a fino day tomorrow. Tho team for to-morrow's match is as follows:— Jackett, Johnny Williams, M'Evedy, Vassal, Chapman, AV. Morgan, J., P. Jones (Guy's), Harding, Smith, Jackson, E. Morgan, Down, Thomas, Hind, and Archer.
MANAWATU RUGBY UNION. (Nt T'/.LEGRArH. —SPECIA.I, CORRESPONDENT.) r Palmerston North, June 9. The Rugby ■ Union decided to-night, with regard to tho ground for tho British match hero. A deputation consisting of Messrs. Gibbons, Pirani, Stagpole, and Miller will wait on tho A. and P. Committee on Tuesday next, and failing satisfactory arrangements being made tho Union will then decide whgther the match be played on tho Palmerston Sports Ground or the Feilding Racecourse. , Tho following dates for representative games wero decided on: —Taranaki, at New Plymouth, July 23; Wanganui, at Wanganui, July 25; South Canterbury, at Palmerston, July 29; Hawke's Bav, at Napier, August 8. " HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION. [from our special correspondent.] Lovin, June 9. A meeting of the management committee of the Horowlienua Rugby Football Union was II3H at Manakau last evening. There wero present:—Messrs. M'Bain (chairman), Eggleton, Goldsmith, and J. S. Fowler (secretary). It was decided that tho protest bv tho Waikauao Club against a win being awtrded the Levin-Wanderer A team for not playing in.their registered colours; bo upheld, and it was further decided that tho match be played at Lovin later in the season. A player, in a charge of deliberately tripping, wis suspended • for a. fortnight. Another plaj-er, reported for misconduct, in that he wis incessantly appealing contrary to the rules of the game, was cautioned. A letter was .received from tho Wanganui Rugby Union stating that their representative team would visit Horowlienua during tho current season.
REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. The members of the Referees' Association on- .Monday evening formulated a number of proposals having for their, object the improvement of the game. This was. done at the invitation of the New Zealand Rugby Union, which is collecting suggestions prior to holding a conforenco on the subiect with Mr. Harnett, (manager of tho British team), who will, 011 behalf of the New Zealand authorities, submit the proposals agreed upon to the English ltugby "Union. Mr. H. Card presided at tho meeting. ' • ' The following. proposals were agreed upon:— That all free-kicks should bo unrestricted.— Proposed by Mr. Laws, and carried with one dissentient. That tho position of wing-forward should be abolished.—Proposed by Mr. Jones, and ultimately agreed on the casting vote of the chairman to recommend that no player should be allowed to' advance beyond a line 'drawn through the back-of .the scrum. That on tho occasion of every :line-out the ball must bo-thrown out at least ten yards.— Proposed by Mr. , Jones, and after a long discussion adopted. Tljat if a player knoclis. on in a passing rush, but recovers the ball beforo it touches the ground, no scrummage should bo given.— Proposed by Mr. Jonos, and agreed to', there being only one dissentient. That* a fair catch should constitute a mark. -r-Proposed by ' Mr. . Jones, and agreed to after the following iyords had been added: " Provided tho player .was on his feet."
