MONTHLY MEETING. [from our special connusroNDENT.] Masterton, June 9. Tho Masterton County Council held its monthly meeting this afternoon, when there weio prcsont, Councillors W. J. Welch ('n the chair), W. Harris, J. Millef, Jno. Morris, J. Colqulioun, 11. 0. Toogood, A. Murray, and R. ;F. Bertham. Tho Alfrcdton -roadman wrote to ''complain of users of tho Alfredton Road easing the springs of their heavily-loaded carts with blocks of wood. It was decided to procure a legal opinion on the point. ■ Mr. C. J: Thrupp, tho Alfredton ranger, wrote to say that settlers were complaining of the lack of accommodation lor impounded animals. It was dccided to have no more impoundings until a shed is erected. An application for transfer of a slaughtering license was granted from J. D. Asbury to H. J. Blake. Mr. J. J. Mead wrote stating that it would be two months from the end of June before tho roadman's cottago at Kebbell's would bo completed, owing to the delay in the acceptance of a tender. The Masterton Borough Council notified that the work of repairing Nursery Road was hell over, pending a petition regarding the severance ,of part of this portion of tho borough. , -- A protest: was received from 11. J. and F. A. Jackson, J. Campbell, and J. Pinfold, against the use of a traction engine on. the Keriwhakapapu lload on account of tho bad state of the.noad. Ho asked the Council to prohibit tno practice. It was dccided to discountenance tho practice complained of. • Messrs. Percy, Bros, sont a written offer of an aero of their land, at To Oro Oro for a gravel pit for ! a sum of £50. . This was accepted. - - . A letter was read from Messrs. Bellshaw Bros, offering to accept 75 per cent.' of tho value of tho .work done in metalling Hutowai lload. —The offer Stas accepted. A notification from the Minister for Public Works was read stating that tho application for £100 for the Homewood—Kaiwhata lload- .would bo duly dealt with when the parliamentary estimates were being framed. ' A special order.confirming the raising of n £150 loan for metalling Black Creek Ro.'d doviation was .confirmed. . The following tenders were accepted:— Building' shelter shed at County Offices, H. Byford, £67; metalling Black Creek Road, J. Tinsley,' £168. The report of tho County Engineer was adopted. ', Councillor Toogood moved tho following i?.solutions, which we're carried: —That Is. pe? day extra be ,paid to tho two men employed in spreading tho gravel on tho East Coast Road; that application bo made for a £ for £ subsidy- on the additional £300 being raised for .the. East Coast-Road motalli.ig loan; Mr. •: Hornsb.v to bo asked to support the request, that the engineer be authorised to expend £100 ill widening tho East Coast--Blnirlogo Road. Tho Finance: Committee of. the Council met in tho morning. Tho treasurer reported as follows :-r-Bank general fund account dr. £138 25.; local bodies loans account, cr. £660 12s. lOd. Accounts amounting to £1418 ~s. 4d. were passed for payment. _ It was,resolved to ask tho Borough Council t, erect two,new lamps at Lansdowne. '
