NEW ARRIVALS.
121 IMMIGRANTS BY THE PAPANUI. Through the chcorless rain-mist which drifted across the harbour, and hung liko a mnntlo of depression over tho city, tho big yellow funnel and black' hull of tho Now Zealand liner Papanui, showed up in tho stream yesterday morning. About 9 a.m. sho was at tho wharf, and hor passengers wero gazing curiously over tho rail at old "Wet and Windy." There wore 121 immigrants on board. Of theso England sont 85.; 23 came from Scotland; tho "distressful counthry" supplied eight'; three were Hebrews, and two doscribed themselves as British colonials. Classified industrially, it appeared that 15 aro farmers, nine aro labourers, eight miners, four clerks, four carpentors, four engineers, two drapors, and two merchants. Threo described themselves as mechanics, one is au actor, another an artist, whilo a third is r an ex-policeman. Thero is also a hairdresser, a grocer, a commercial traveller, a moulder, a plumber, a journalist, a printers' reader, and nine domestic servants. _ In general physique tln>y aro' noticeably superior to previous arrivals. The ages of tho majority range from 20 to 30,' although thcro.is a sprinkling of; elderly men between 40 and 55. A considerable proportion aro married, with families.
