SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

The fortnightly meeting of the. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was hold last ovcnin;;,■ Mr. J. S. Jamieson occupying the chair. . iA letter was received from Mr. W. H. Zouoh, secretary of the Christchurch Society; stating that it had beeii decided to hold the proposed conference on June 25, at Wellington, and he enclosed a copy of an interim order paper regarding the matters it was proposed to deal with it. Tho following subjects were mentioned: The proper transit of animals by sea and land; pigeon shooting _ matches and sea-bird destruction; registration of slaughtermen and drovers; the stunning of all animals before slaughter; docking horses; and that all tho societies bo affiliated with ono central association oi 1 union, to be controlled by a board of directors appointed by each society. ' Mr. W. Watson was not in agreement with the idea of having a controlling body. He thought that tho separate societies wore doing very well at present. Mi\ Richardson spoke in favour of the central association. As at present constituted, the societies were isolated and this hampered their work. There should be, no objection if each society wero left free regarding funds and roles, and allowed to manage its own business. _ The Chairman said that an annual conference would be a good thing. Messrs. J. Ilott 1 and S. J. Jamieson wore appointed delegates to the conference.
