LAND VALUATION.

AND THE ASSESSMENT COURTS. . THE LAND APPEAL. ' Sinco Land Assessment Courts are now sitting/. arid land-owners in - several instances trill :'rio doubt be objecting to tlieir. valuations; or be otherwise interested in the proceedings, the following section, and sub-sec-tion'from the Government Valuation.of Land. .Amendment Act, 1900, should prove useful information: — v-.;" Section: 31. ; If the owner of any land (other than , the owner of a leasehold interest therein) is not satisfied with' tho value' ofi such land as fixed , by : the Assessment Court, then the following provisions shall apply: ! ■ .; ",(1) He-may, vwithin fourteen days after • «;tho' hearing - by "the t Court, : givo notico to the Valuer-General that ho requires the capital value to be reduced to' the amount specified in the notico (being tho sum which, in the opinion of the owner, is tho fair capital ■ value), or the land to be acquired on behalf of Her Majesty at the sum speci- ■ ficd in tho . notice. v ' . . i " (2) If such'notice is duly given to the ; Valuer-General, lie may ■ either reduce the • capital value to the sum specified in the notice, or to any: other sum agreed " . on by him and the owner, ;or may refer 1 ■ the matter to the Goverrior-in-Council. .' (3) If the' Governor-jn-Council does not approvc'of the acquisition of tho land, then the Valuer-General shall reduce ; the: oapital value to the amount speeilied! in,the notice, or to any other sum agreed on as aforesaid, and shall alter the roll accordingly. M (4) If the Gqvernor-in-Council approve of the acquisition of tho land at the /sum specified' as aforesaid in such notico, then the Governor- may, by Order-in-Council gazottcd, declare tho land to • - be vested in Her Majesty, whereupon ■ - the- provisions of sub-sections four to eight of section thirty hereof shall, ' mutatis mutandis, apply."
