NOTES AND COMMENTS. fßr Glencoe.] Gold Seal is entered for cross country events at tho Napier Park meeting. His Excellency tliQ Governor has signified ins intention of being present at the Hawke's Jw Jockey Club's meeting next Wednesday. Nominations for the Wellington Racing night 3 " MeCtmg closo nest Monda y The Hawke's Bay Hunt. Club will hold 29 r ann l'■ steeplechase meeting on July Destinist who ran second in tho Birthday Oup at Adelaide on Saturday, has been performing very well in tho last two months, ilo has won tho Licensed Victuallers' Handicap, the South' Australian Tattersall's Oup, and the Adelaide Cup. Tho Stepniak Uenuku has been nominated for the hack hurdle events at tho Napier Park meeting. e Cockleshell was going very well in tho pilvcrstream Hack at the Dunediii meeting, j but when tho'Straight was reached tho saddle slipped, and left M'Cluskey in trouble. But for the mishap the Clanranald filly would probably have--run into a place.. The champion 'chaser Kaitere ran thrco times unplaced at tho Ellerslie meeting. who had to bo destroved after tho Great Northern Steeplechase on Wednesday last, won six races during his- turf career, his most important victories being in the Takapuna Steeplechase and the Grand national Steeplechase, both of which events ho won in 1905. The Merriwce gelding Highden, who has been off tho scene for a couplo of months, appears among tho entries for tho hack events at Napier Park. Though Grand Circle was entered for tho iinal Hack Scurry .at Otaki, lie was, not started, as his owner discovered at tho: last momorit that he had competed in the Pacific Handicap at tho in 1905, whereas the Scurry at Otaki is for candidates tha't have never started in other than hack or hunter races.

Alf. Shoarsby returned home from Auckland at tho end of the week with Aorangi, Moscow, and Vasa. Nono of tho horses mentioned was successful in their engagements, though Aorangi was going exceedingly well in tho Great Northern Hurdles when he .was brought down by Onmti. Moscow is to bo treated to a spell. ;■ Riflomaid/will not be seen out again until tho Trentham meeting next month. The Merriirec—Bluewater fill.v, purchased by Mr. F. Dorset at the dispersal sale of tho Longlands Stud, has been entered for the Wairarapa Hack Guineas. Kitchenmaid (Soult—Lady Cuisine) ran her last race when she competed unsuccessfully in the Railway Handicap at Otaki on Thursday last. She goes to the stud, and wili bo mated with the St. Lcger horse Clanranald. After soeing, Blue Ribbon run at the Wellington meeting last month, I expressed-the opinion that she. would win a race before tho.-season closed. After being beaten by Iranui ill the Maiden Race on tho first .day of tho' Otaki 'meeting, it looked as if sho had lost a/good, opportunity of gaming distinction / this season, but. she proved equal to winning a hack handicap on : the'second day of ; the meeting. Iranui was, perhaps, a trifle lucky to win on the first clay,, for Blue Ribbon bumped into Timothy at the homo turn, and was then only beaten by three-quarters' of^a-length. / . ;,/ ' , . . The Apremont mare 'Millennial has not won a; race for a long time, and in consequence she is in with the minimum weight in handicaps at the Hawke's Bay, meeting. ;'

RACING IN FRANCE. " During my stay in Paris (writes Mr. G. S. Munro/ manager of tho' recent New Zealand Exhibition), I went out to Autueil, where 1 saw an afternoon's borse-racing. The class of horses competing, impressed mo very much indeed. Tho horsomanshio was good, but tho starting was not up to tho Now Zoaland standard. Tho starting gates appoared to be better than ours, though I did not get an opportunity of examining them closely. The race course is wonderfully convenient to tho contro.of tho city, and can bo reached by tram, cab, or motorcar, in a few minutes. What surprised m in connection with the raeo oourso was tho numbor of different racing tracks. Tho short rcces Trero run on a straight track right through tho centra of tho oourso. A milo and a half and furthor appeared to be run on an outsido r*cing track, whilo races from six furlongs to a milo Trcro run' on an inside racing track. Tho grand stand accommodation for tho public ras on a vory oxtensivs scale. Tho course itself is not fonccd in, and you can sit in. your motor-car cr cab, on tho streot on any side and seo nil tho racing without paying any charge for admission, cxcopting for tho grand stand inclosuros. Thoro was no charge,' and the public woro permitted access to the courso without any restriction whatever."
