A CASE FOR THE FREEHOLD.
Mr. J. C. Fowler, Farmers' Union Organiser, put in a strong plea at Carterton tor tho right of Government leasehold tenants to acquire the freehold of their land. Ho mentioned a case in which, some years ago, three men settlements, which they had improved greatly, and yet tho land did not belong to them; while alongside of them wore farmers who had been allowed to buy the freehold of their properties., The whole block had been oponcd up for selection it tho one time, but tho three settlers mentioned wore the only original selectors who stuck to their lands. The other selectors abandoned their sections, and the properties w"6re afterwards opened up for selection under: a different tenure. .
