(FHOM oon SPECIAIz CORRESPONDENTS.) V $ PALMERSTON NORTH. Tho - newly-formed Hunt Club opened on Saturday .afternoon at Longburn, when upwards of fifty members tvero in attendance. The criminal list for Palmerston Supremo Court, which will open on Tuesday, is exceptionally light, there being only;two cases and a similar number of divorces. The civil cases will occupy somo considerable time. ' MASTERTON. The .Rev. Herbert AVatson, the new vicar appointed to St. Matthews' Church, Master-to-i, was inducted on Sunday by the Ven. Archdeacon Fancourt, Commissary of tho BishoD of Wellington. There was a crowded congregation, and the ceremony was combined with Whitsuntide celebrations. Special music was sung throughout tho sorvice, which was of an impressive nature. GREYTQWN. The weather is keeping fine enough hero for the farmers to get on with their work, of which a great deal is now being done. The Wairarapa-Greytcwn cheese factory has closed down, and cheques were paid out on Saturday. The, season was somewhat unsatisfactory owing to tho amount of dry weatlier in summer, and the shortago of milk nevrir righted itsolf, many fanners drying their cows early in the season.
SHANNON. The weather here has : been unusually warm, with frequent rain. There is any amount of feed in, this district, and it is a matter of wonder that the prico of chaff should be so high.. ' A meeting of residents will be held in tho Druids' Hall next Wednesday to mako arrangements for the official opeining of the ShannonjFoxton bridgo on June 24. The Son. W. Hall-Jones will probably attend, and it is likely that Messrs. Stevens, Field, and Wood, M.P.'s, will be present. A luncheon will bo held in the Town Hall. Mr. W. C. Buchanan's name was omitted inadvertently from names of officers of the Bowling Club. Ho has been patron sinco the inception of the club, and was unanimously re-elected. The Fire Brigade received a call at, 5.30 yesterday afternoon, some scrim and paper being ablaze in Mr. Petersen's house:, A few buckets of wator averted the danger. OTAKI. At the Police Court on Saturday, beforo Messrs. Brown and Bennett, J.P.'s, the two men, William Pobar and Frank Glinn, who were remanded last week, appeared to answer to charges of "ringing tho changes." Pobar • was charged with .one offence, but Glinn was called upon on two charges. The former pleaded not guilty, but the latter pleaded guilty, giving drunkenness as an excuse. Pobar, for whom Mr. Weston appeared, was acquitted, but Glinn was fined £1 on each charge, in default seven days' imprisonment. •
FEATHEIISTON. Mr. W. Barton has presented an "Expert" clay pigeon trap to the Gun Club. . : Mr P. M'Nab has disposed of it he dwelling ownod by him in Fitzhebert Street, to Mr. W. Tyler, at a satisfactory figure. Mr. E. M'Kenzio, tho-well-known Tauherenikau horse-trainer, is making good :e----covery from his recent severe illness.
