News was received in Wellington yester- ' day of tho death at midnight on Wednesday ' of Lady M'Kcnzio, wife of tho late Sir John I 1 M'Kcnzio,: the well-remembered . New Zealand' statesman. Deceased passed away peacefully at her home,' " Heathfield," Palmerston 'South. ' Sho was tho daughter of' ■ ; Mr. John Munro, a farmer 'on tho Novar-Estate, Glenglass, Ross-shire, -Scotland, ; where.she was bom. Her marriage to tho ' latoy Sir John was celebrated on May. 23,, ". 1860, tho day slid and her-husband sailed for N their new home in New Zealand. Two sons and three daughters survive hor, the .former being Mossrs. John M. and Duncan Aloxander M'Kenzie, tho'present owners of - the Bushy' Park Estate, '' M. P. Cameron, of Khnndallali, Wellington,' Mrs. Atkinson, Palmerston South, and Miss Katherino M'Kenzie, ■ also of Palmerston South. She leaves nine grandchildren. Our Dunedin .correspondent telegraphs:— • News of the", death of Lady .M'Konzic was received to-day with sincere regret. Sho was a true helpmeet to Sir John M'Kenzie, and tlie sharer in.his joys-and sorrows, from the time when ho was a shepherd on the slopes ■ of Pukqtapu, to .the day wlion ho received j the insignia of St. Michael and .St.- George at ••the hand of,tho present Princo of Wales. Lady' M.'Kenzio was an Urqnhart, a typical Highland woman, and a fluent Gaelic scholar. Sho'was hospitable to a degree, and carricd with her through life tho frionds of her early and struggling days. She took the keenest interest in politics,, and was a shrewd critic and judge of tactics. Sir Joseph Ward, seen by your representative this afternoon on his way north, said— "I heard the sad news of the death of Lady M'Kcnzio from hor family this morning, with the-deepest regret. .
