The,,■ -Archbishop/ .of Westminster, ih\ 'Bourne, recently opened the St. Mary's 'Nursery: College, Highgatc, which has . 'been established to train educated girls as children's nurses. It is proposed to give at the college a practical course in the dailycaro and feeding of children from ;a. fortnight to five years old, together with courses.of in--stniction in nursery hygiene, the physiology of children, first aid, and kindergarten • games. Mrs. Bernard Mole, principal of tho col- / lege,; said that already she had had several applications for nurses, including the offer of a post at tho Russian Court at a salarv of £dOO a year. The secretary of, tho .conference, Mr. Ernest Schofield, 1 in an V interview; said that there were about 33,000 registered nurses .in England Qualified to take entire charge of maternity cases. The Act of '1902, which comes into full force in 1910, restricts maternity work, to these nurses, and'will throw out of employment 30,000 untrained nurses now dealing with / this .class of cases.
