A STRENUOUS HOLIDAY.
JOHNSONVILLE RIFLES AT THE HUTT. .Tho Joluisonvillo Rifles (Captain Moore) and the Hutt Valley 1 Rifles (Captain Ross) made strenuous work of tho Prince of Wales'a Birthday. The former corps paraded about 7 a.m., and afterwards ■ maroned down tho gorgo to Ngahauranga, whore they entrained for the Hutt, on a fraternal visit to their brothers in arms, the Hutt Valley Rifles. The two companies paraded at the Hutt Recreation Ground at 9 a.m., and for the ensuing two and a half hours wore thoroughly exercised in battalion and company j movements, skirmishing, and general field tactics. Liout.-Colonel Beauchop, C.M.G., and Captain T. W. M'Donald were present during tho oxorciscs. Captain Ross, of tho Hutt Valley Rifles, who was undergoing tho practical portion of his examination, was in charge of tho companies. At 11.30 a.m. drill gavo place to football, and in a vigorous sot to between representative teams, Johnsonvillo was badly worsted by nine points to four. Thon came luncheon, tho officers dining, at Bellevuo Gardens, and tho men at tho Drill-shod., After dinner, outpost exorcises.wore carried out on the ITutt River bank, undor tho supervision of Captain C. Ilarcourt Turner. This was kept up till about 5.p.m., when tho companies entrained for Wellington, in order to take_ part in _ tlio Garrison parade at iho new Drill Hall in Bucklo Streot.
