EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of 'thoV Easttourno Borough Council was held'on-'Saturday ovenhig, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. F.. G. ; Bolton), Councillors Bannatyno, ' Foley, M'Keegan,. Robertson, Shortt, and tho Clerk (J. D. Avery). Tlio Mayor reported that tho Marino Department had 'approved 'this completion' of the Rona'culvert, , and that tho Harbour Board had exccntea the• agreement as betweon the Council and the Board in relation thereto.. ■ • - .. . The Hxitt Park Committee asked the Council to reconsider its' decision ,to haso. its contribution to tlio'park funds on an unimproved valuation of the boroughs interested. ' The Council resolved to adhere to its original decision. The Hutt Park Committee also stated, in reply to the Council,.'that they e'ould not form an estimate of tho cost of testing tho legality of tho Golf,, Club'B lease, and-asked for consent! to procoed., ' The matter '.was held over pending, a^^report''from'Dr;''Mackenzie, the Council's representntivo on th.o .Committee. The secretary ,to the Post, and Telegraph Department intimated , that, in responso to the Council's application, two receiving' boxes would be erected in the district—ono at South Muritai and ono at Fabian Street, Rona Bay—-and that correspondence would bo delivered daily throughout the borough; also that for the future : tho .mail .would bo. dispatched from Wellington by tho 10.15 a.m. boat, and : from,-Eastbourne byll.l's a.m. boat. Tho Clerk was directed to thank tho Department for tho improvements. In the matter of public works, it .was resolved that the new main road bo constructed as far as Nikau Street, and that the footpath be constructed to the south end of Mr. Preston's property. It was also resolved that the footpaths be 'coated with fine gravel, to be rolled in. Councillor Shortt moved—"That tho Council take steps to have plans and prices submitted for tho erection of a- hall on tho borough site." After discussion, during, which a majority thought the proposal premature, tho motion was withdrawn. ■ Tho Mayor _ reported that tho Harbour Board had decided to erect a triangular extension to the Rona' Bay ivh'arf, an improvement which would, in tho opinion of the engineer of tlio Harbour Board and tho manager and captains'of'tlio Ferry Company, make tho wharf workable in all weathers. .
