THE STATE COAL MINES.

Speaking at a social function, the underground manager at the Stato mine said that work at the mine was very brisk just now, and tho mmers_ were working good timo. ' Ho bclioved tho miners woro making fairly good wagos, and ho hoped that they would continue to do so. A start had that day (Friday) been mado on tho expansion of that railway to the new coalfields acquired by t.lio Government, and in tho courso of a couplo of years thoro would be a largo amount of labour required, which would benefit tho district to a great extent. Thoro was enough coal in sight in Nos. 1 and 2 mines here to afford all the, men in tho district employment for many years to come. The district had a bright and prosperous future before it.
The great fire salvage sale is at present in full swing nt tho Economic Drapery Warehouse. The attention of the shopping public is drawn to an important announcement which appears in this -issuo. There are, states the onnouncument, bargains in nil tho departments —the showroom, blouse department, laces and aprons, dross, and furs.
