'HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL. • A special meeting (if the Lower Hutt' Borough Council was hold; last evening. The Mayor (Mr. T. A. Pqterkin) was in the chair, and there, were also'present: Crs. Baldwin, Ross, Hughes, Wildsmitli, Hodgins, O'Sullivan, "Ward,.- and Russell;.' Application was "made by Captain'Ross, of the' Hutt Valley' Rifles,, for .the use of tho Recreation, Ground for,a.football match between; the'.Hlitt'-Rifles and the Johnsonvillo ,Rifles. The Council, then went into' committee on the 'estimates for'the, coming year. 7 Despite the cold weather- and the muddy streets 'a large and, interested, assemblage gathered, on-; Saturday night to hear, the NoLicense speakers'on their fortnightly visit to tho boroughs • The speakers- fluently- explained their cause, but their, contentions' were not made-public without a large amount of interruption from some, very evident opponents .teethe, 'proposed,;change, and at tames tho remark's wore iarf from polite'.
