AN INTERESTING RELIC.

Said the Sydney " Telegraph " of May 21: The town of Richmond' intends on EmpireDay to have formally unfurled in its superior public ■ school the identical flag that was flown by the late Mr. John Bowman on his farm, " Archerfield," at Richmond, when the news arrived of the victory of Trafalgar, October'2l, 1805. This historical flag has ' been carefully kept for the hundred and odd years since then; and in November,- 1905, Mr. Bowman's great grandchildren gave it 'to the school. By the efforts of Mr. G.' E. Lyell, tho present headmaster, this flag has recently been framed and i hung in tho_ main schoolroom. The flag is of whito silk, in the centre of which is a coloured shield on which are painted the Rose, Shamrock, and Thistle • intertwined ; ■as the supporters to the shield appear the kangaroo and emu. In a scroll above tho shield is printed in gold ; lettering the word " Unity. Beneath the scroll, similarly printed in gold letters, is the motto, "England expects that every man will do his duty." Allowing for the time that has passed, the colouring is well preserved, and tho gold of the letters has almost its pristine sheen. Mr. Joseph Cook, M.H.R., the Federal member for the district is to perform the'unvoiling of frhat is known locally ao tho Trafalgar Flag, and which is unanswerable that the " one people, one flag, one destiny" sentiment actually existed in New South .Wales, a century ago. , . .
