MASTERTON DOG TRIALS.
YESTERDAY'S RESULTS. (by TELEGRAPH.—SrECIAL COHttKSrONDENT.) Mastorton, May 29. The Masterton Collio Club .dog trials wore continued to-day iu showery weather. The heading, bringing back, and yarding competition was concluded this morning, when the lirst prizo was awarded to Mr. A. E. M'Leod's Moss of Ancrum, who put up such a splendid performance yesterday. . This dog scored 33 out of a possiblo 40 points. Mr. R. Grant's Tip (Porangahau) was second with 37 points, and Mr. P. M'Kenzie's Lad (Dannevirke) third with 35 points. The work of a large number of tho dogs was of poor description. ' Tho hunt-away competition, distance 300 yards,, was won by Mr. J. Paterson's Tyne (.Masterton) with 27 points, Mr. J. M'Donald's Snooks (Dannevirko) being second with 26 points, and Mr. P. Mackenzie's Roy (Dannevirke) third with 24 points. The maximum was 30 points. By this win Mr. Paterso'n Teceives two gold medals "and £7. Tho work generally in this class was of a very poor description, more than half the number of dogs being unable to complete the course. A commencement was made with the heading, - driving, and yarding competition, in which a number of dogs appeared to advantage! The best performance was ' put up again by Moss of Ancrum, who showed wonderful intelligence in all sections, especially in tho yarding. Another dog, who showed up well, was Mr. J. M'Donald's Mac (Dannevirke), who yarded quicker than any other competitor. His work all round, however, was not so neat as that of Moss of Ancrum. Mr. A, E. M'Lood's other New South Welsh champion; Tweed of Roxborough, "also imported, and winner of tho Exhibition Championship last ' year at Christchurch,. gave a neat performance, but exceeded the time limit.
