MONTHLY MEET INC. The monthly meeting of tho Wellington Education Board was held- yesterday, there being present: The Chairman (Mr. R. Lee), and Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, M!P., A. W. Hogg, M.P., J. Kebbell, W. C. Buchanan, antf Captain T. M'. M'Donald. THE BOARD'S FINANCES. The statement of finances showed that the following accounts v.*ore in credit: —General account, £2264 18s. lOd.; manual/ and techmeal account, £525 Ds. Cd.; technical account, £32 1-ts.; deposit account, £85 16s. In debit: Building account, £3731 ISs.; secondary account, £137 2s. 2d.; teachers' salaries, £2/ ss. Debit balauco on.May 26, 1908, £937 6s. lid. Tho contract liabilities (including sites) amounted to £978 lis. lOd. , CORRESPONDENCE. Dominion Medals.—Tho Education Department intimated that a sufficient supply of Dominion commemoration medals was now available for distribution ansoug Ijp scholars of tho primary and high schools. '(The'secretary was instructed to make arrangements for their distribution. Levin School Additions.—A letter was received from the Government, stating that a grant of .£7OO for the required additions to the Levin School had been, authorised., Manakau School Residence.—The Department wrote stating that the grant for tho school residence at Manakau would bo limited to £150. . Eketahuna School Site.—Permission was granted by tho Department for the sale of that • portion of the land at present occupied by the Eketahuna School. Aided School at Admiral Run.—On the application of Mr. Sutherland, it was decided to establish an aided school at Adiniral Run. Leases.—Application was made by Mr. A. R. G. Crawford for a lease of section 79, block 8, Malum, and by Mr. M. F. Murphy for a. lease of tho Maku school site. It was decided to advertise for tenders for the leases on a 21 years' tenuro. Head Teacher, Ballance.—The head teacher of Ballanco School applied for the use of four acres' of tho Board's property in the'Bajlance township. This was granted. Mangatiti-Pukehinau. — Some correspondence was received with reference to the •removal of the Mangatiti School to tho proposed new site.' It was generally that the matter had already received 'the fullest consideration of the Board, and that its previous decision—to romove, tho school, —be adhered t0... ' REPORTS. Tho following recommendations of the Finance and Works Committee were adopted:— absolutely- necessary repairs bo effected at tho main school; that two rooms be erected to complete tho infant department; that authority be obtained to sell two sections of the old site. Worser Bay—That shelter sheds, bo removed to the side of tho .playground as desired by the committee, which has undertaken a largo amount of levelling. Muritai—That a special grant bo allowed for, construction of doors to outbuildings, and improvements to l water supply. ' Makomako—That tho committeo. be pormitted to enlargo . the present school, tho plans being first approved by the - clerk .of works, and the work carried out to_ his satisfaction. Scarborough—That a subsidy be granted for improvements at residence on condition that tho work is completed. Ohau—:That motalling bo done. Otaki—That acceptance of tender for fencing Jb'o left in hands of tho chairman and secretary. _ Cross Creek—That repairs to residenco chimney bo. carried out. ; Dalefield—That roof repairs to residence be effected. Hukanui (use of reserve) —That the school committeo bo informed that 'tho teacher is entitled to occupy such.'part of tho school reserve as is not required for school purposes. _ Mauricqville West—That the school oomfmitteo be requested to -observe the 'condition—that dancing should not be permitted in tho old school—which was agroed to by their predecessors in office ■ at the. time when the school was fitted, up for laboratory purposes. That the following be referred to the clerk of works for report:— (a) Rangituniaii: Application for fencing; (b) Belvedere: General repairs. TJhat applications bo invited for an assistant clerk of works at £4 per week-(temporary appointment "during present pressure of'work). NORMAL TRAINING' COLLEGE. ' .The Principal of the Normal Training College (Mr. W. Gray) reported that the total enrolment of students was 80 (48 first year and 32 second year students), one of whom had since retired/ Tho following table shows tho districts represented (tho figures for the mala division aro . .significant): - ; Div. The proposed extension lectures, with the exception, of one conducted by Miss Fitch, have been abandoned through want of support. Tho following recommendations were tendered by tho Committeo of Advice Library—That a sura not exceeding £10 per annum bo granted to enablo tho Princi-. pal to obtain, tho services of a student in tho library. ■ Leave of Absence.—That tho request of Miss Fitch for leavo of absence from end of November, 1908, to end of Mafch,' 1909, be acceded to; and that tho arrangements, for carrying on the work, proposed by tho Principal, bo approved, namely, that Miss; Wilton take temporary i charge of tho,lnfant Department, ana Miss Renner of Standard I. Caretaker .j—That the .Committeo bo authorised to arrange for the whole time of'the caretaker, provided the annual salary does not' exceed £100. Nelson Education Board;— That, whilo the plan of work, for-.-tho..current''year does not permit of a school, of. instruction being held tor country teachers of small „ schools, future arrangemerits > ho made, if possible, .for such a courso of instruction. . GENERAL, It was decided that the'Wairarapa members 'visit tho Matarawa and Waiohino Schools, andrcport on the question of sites. Consideration of the question of consolida-. ting tho schools in tho Pahautanui district was deferred. ' Tenders Accepted.—The teiidor of Messrs. Taylor and Hodges, of Masterton, for the erection of tho new brick school at Lans : ,. downo, near Masterton, and that of Mr. H. H. Godfrey, of Pahiatua, for the removal and re-ercction of tho Mangntiti School, were accepted. Tenders for painting and repairs to tho Gladstone School will bo rc-advcrtiscd in 1 tho summer. * '
