y '—— 4 : —- 'A YEAR'S STATISTICS. GRATIFYING .INCREASES. ' ' At yesterday's meeting of the Harbour Board a -report was presented showing .1 summary of : tlio working of the port of AVellington for tlio year ending March 31, 1908. The report shows considerable increases, of trade undor most heads. Tho tonnage of vessels arriving during tho 12 months ending March 31 was as follows:—
■ 215,422 226,874 11,452 or 5.04 Last year'' 'wool showed an increaso of 2J per cent., and hemp' an increaso 'of 16 per cent., total ly per cent. '. During the year 1907-8, 152,094 tons of: coals svero 'imported, as against 134,930 in 1906-7, being atiincreaso of 17,164 tons, or. ,12.7 - per-, cent. ■ The previous' year's increaso was 12.1 p.er, cent. ■ The report was, diocussed by the Board in Committee.' . The Chairman, (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.),,subsequently congratulated the Board- on tho progress' shown.'by' tho figures, and remarlcpd that in the matter of inward tonnage, per annum the port pf Wellington ' had now overtaken Bristol.
