It has boen announced that Mr. Lethbridge will not seek re-election, and if his decision is irrevocable, Mr. A. H. Atkinson, of Feilding, will bo a candidate for tho Oroua seat. iu.r. Atkinson will stand against the Government. Mr. D. li. Guthrie states that he also will be a candidate for tho Opposition party. Macnamara, of Murchis.on (Prohibitionist and Liberal), will contest tho Buller seat against Mr. James Colvin. Mr. Macnamara is a moniber of tho Inangahua County Council, on which body ho represents tho Murchison riding. Mr. Colvin has now represented Buller m Parliament for nine years. THE UNIONS AND THE POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE. , (BY TELEGRAriI—FHF.S3 ASSOCIATION.)' Dunedin, May 28. A meeting of tho executive officers of the Trades Union was held to-night to consider the political situation. Tho following resolution was carried: —'.fhat it is dosirablo that tho workers of Dunedin should bo properly represented in" 'Parliament, and that tho best means to attain that end is by tho. unions affiliating with the Political Labour League. ' Tho representatives of tho unions present pledged themselves to do their; best . to induce tho unions to, affiliate with the League. ' UNPOPULAR ALTERATIONS. • Palmcrston North, May 28. The Palmerstou olectoral rolls aro being purged by the agents of tho ■ no-license party, and up to date 750 objections have been lodged against names appearing on tho rolls. The apparently aimless wanderings of the electoral boundary line liavo produced remarkable results in the Palmerston electorate. Longburn, within four miles of Palmerston, which' was' previously wholly in tho Palmerston electorate, is now divided. Half tho township is attached to the Otaki electorate, which across the river runs to the Fitzherbert bridgo, .within a mile of Palmerston. Tho ludicrous effect arrived at is best shown when it is pointed out that Messrs. R. S. Abraham, J. O. Batchelar, A. E. Russell, C. J. Monro, and many other settlors identified with the history of Palmerston, hut living in suburban residences, are now members of tho Otaki electorate. Bunnythorpe, another township a few miles from the town, is split into three portions— Palmerston, Oroua; and Manawatu electorates. The actual effect of tho readjustment is considerably to reduce tho area of the Palmerston electorate, and the picturesque results of tho alteration in boundaries aro sure to create resentment when the pqsition is fully comprehended by the electors. THE BRUCE SEAT. Dunedin, May 28. It is understood the Liberal and Labour Federation in the Bruce electorate will meet immediately after the Tuapeka by-election to select a candidate to . contest the Bruce seat. The present selection lies botwen Mr. Thomas Mackenzie and Mr.' Mosley, chairman of the Bruco County Council. , THE TUAPEKA SEAT. The following telegram has been dispatched by the Wellington branch of the i Liberal and Labour Federation to Mr. James Horn, who is contesting tho Tuapeka seat in the Government interest: —"Members of, tho Wellington Branch of tho Liberal and Labour Federation wish you complete suecoss in your endeavours to win the Tua- J poka seat. We regret .you are prevented haying a straight-out fight with the Opposition' candidate, but trust the Liberal vote will.be solidly yours, and that on June 5 • you will score a decisivo victory." Mr. Horn replied that ho would do-his best.
