CHARGE OF MURDER.
/ THE WESTPORT CASE. . (BY TELEORAra.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Westport,'May : 28. , At the hearing of tho charge of murder against Olaf Halinan and Andrew Anderson .to-day, Haakon Haakon'son, a cook, who deserted from tho Norwegian barquft Tacora recently, at Westport, stated that' he was with the : accused from 7.30 p.ni. to a late hour visiting a fish-shop}, hotel, and theatre, and being later with the two' men. During that time Andersen did not leave,him, and Halinan was only absent a few minutes twice. Robb, a sailor on the Canopus, said ho saw accused at tho hotol about the time tho murder was- alleged to have taken place, also later at a row at a fish-shop, and described a fight in which ho stated Halinan took part with three stewards off, the Taltino, finishing up with a further row on the-wharf. Witness added that he saw one of the, stewards next day with, ho belioved, a black eye. _ It is'alleged by tho defenco that tho fight with tho stewards was what, accused described on tho Saturday following Bourke's death, and that the remarks wore mistakenly understood to refer to Bourlce. Tho defence is still proceeding. '•
