MR; PRYOR'S VISIT TO GISBORNE AND ! NAPIER, : Mr. W. Pryor, Secretary of. tho Employees' ... Federation, , who returned from Gisborne and Napier last evening,., told ft Dominion ro- • PQrter that his trip.'to Gisbomo had been , 1 highly successful from the point ,of view "of . the business of, the Federation. Ho was'; exceedingly wo'l received. He took part in/ the work of the Arbitration Court,'and :oh Friday." evening, May . 22, lie had onoiof tha/i , best meetings of employers, that he ever , had in connpctiori with' his brganisingrwork,', aTid there was every promise of a good and strong Association being maintained:',He ' returned to Napier oil Monday morning last, and; he wis engaged in ■ organising . work • 1 there, and spent a 'couple 'of . days in and. . around Hastings, wherd it ihas: heeii arranged to' form a branch to' work' in con- , '■ : junction with the Napier Association. "Altogether," says Mr. Pryor; "I am very well pleased with the . results of ; my visit to Gisborne and Napier." l : ~ AN INTERESTING CASE. Mr. Pryor said.there was a very interest-; ing case before the Arbitration Court, at' , its. Gisborne sittings, and a somewhat- un- ' usual position arose. A firm of buildera • was"citod for. not paying'lis. per day extra, ; , as provided in the' award, for workers 'sent ■" into tho country. The. facts of. the'ease:' disclosed that this man engaged -a worker ' in (iishorno, and lie sent tho man. to Wairoa. Now, Gisborno. is in tho southern portion of v tho Auckland industrial' district," and Wairoa is in the northern portion" or ; ■ the Wellington (district. The point at issuo • ivas whether the Gisborne or" the Wellington ; ' award should apply. If the Gisborne award was held to .operate, then the extra shilling per day would have to be paid. If the Wellington award applied, then, tho contrary would be the case. Tho matter, was ' of very great importance, and as it had . been brought, under Mr. Pryor's notice only an hour before tjhe Court met to dear with the matter, <the Court agreed that, as it was so important, it should be removed to, Wellington, where, argument by counsel' could be heard. THE WANGANUI STRIKES. , Mr. Pryor has been advised that the Labour Department is, going to tako action against the' Wanganui freezing and • fellmongery workers who weii't out on strike. ; TIIE BLENHEIM ASSOCIATION, A visit to. Blenheim will be paid shortly • to assist in reviving the Association in that ■town. "If successful in that," Mr. Pryor, : says, "then wo will have an Association in, , overy centra' whore tho• Federation ■' thinks".:•! it necessary to have one in tho meantime."
