Notwithstanding the rather rough weather on Saturday, most of tho football fixtures ; were, got oft'. only Senior match played was between Shannon and Hui Mai, which resulted in a win for Ilud Mai by 28 points to nil. Tho game was a spirited one, notwithstanding tho occasional very hard work against wind and rain. For Shannon, Wallace, Tannahill, and , Extou played good' games, whilst for Hui Mai Ned' Bevan' and Royal were prominent back players. During the match Kelly, of Shannon, had to leave the-field, owing to a dislocated shoulder, his . placo being filled by Woods. Mr. Kingi Tahiwi hold tho whistle. A. fine dry spot has been sccured at Waikanae, and it is only a matter- of a short time when a school, much larger and more convenient than, tho present one,, will be (erected. Mr. G. 'Watson, chairman of the -committee, had time and asain urged that something should be done for tho health of the children, and it is pleasing lo know his efforts haye been successful. There is a probability of a school teacher's residence being erected. Owing to a meagre attendance at the meeting to consider .tho advisability of forming a musical society for Otaki,' it was decided to adjourn till Friday next. A fair amount of support has been: promised, ■the project.'. . . ■ ■' -•. '; . Advice from Messrs.,-Bright\Brothers announces the fact that they have arrived at India, all well, having had a most enjoyable trip. i . Tho Te Horo School staff are promoting a concert in aid of ,the piano fund,. the dato fixed ! being Juno 16. Tho programmo will consist of various items, by the children. General regret is being expressed here at the projected departure of tlie Rov.\H. T. Stealoy, who has accepted tho position of Principal of tlie Otaki Maori College, vico the Rev. S. J. Tho annual meeting of tho Horowlienua Horticultural Society' takes place to-day. It is probable that . several of tho present officials 1 will not seek re-election, as tlioy are in favour of new blood for a term or so. Exhibited in Otaki at the present time is a handsome cup (generously donated by Mr. James Woods) to. bo competed for in the football arena: Thov trophy, which is a valuable one, is to be won straight out'this season. Mr. Wood has always been a keou sport, and thoroughly alive. to the interests of players. . Otaki now boasts of an up-to-date Young Mon's Club, one where many a winter's evening is likely to be spent. At present it is only in its initial stages, but in tho courso of a fow weeks it mil bo doubtful if t'jo room will be sufficiently large enough ! to ac- ' commodate all members. The young ladies of the town are also well catered for, the Girls', Club boasting of a large membership. The majority of members aro most energetic,, and attend in good-force at-the meetings. The district is still onjoying perfect weather, tho conditions being almost as mild as in summer. Certainly Otaki's climate is very hard to beat. WOODVILLE.
