~ AUCKLAND OVERFLOWING. . NO REDUCTION IN PPJCES. Tho quantity of butter in store ■at Auckland on . Friday (says our correspondent) was 19,156 boxes, or 478' tons. During tho-week 400 bo: cos, or ten tons, were shipped to South ■ Africa, and 594 boxes, or nearly fifteen tons, to England; while tho total quantity received (luring''tho week Vivas' 455 boxes, or eleven tons, tho total delivery out of st-orage; ; b'eing 711 boxes. The quantity in storago. and being received is something extraordinary for this period of the year,; and the available supply is now nearly equal to tho quantity stored in April last year, when factories closed down, so that there is moro than an .abundant; supply for the local market. The fact' that Auckland .pastures have been able to make up for the shortage! caused by the drought in 'January and /February—which threatened to close the factories in March with a serious shbrtage locally—and that we are ablo to . export butter in May—is a remarkable circumstance"," and illustrates tho wonderful recovery that Auckland pastures have 'been able to mako under favourable weather conditions. It also shows that tho public has every reason to'ezpcct that a reduction in tho retail prico should take place, .there being ho reason , why prices should remain at any higher rate than •' ruled before tho drought assumed serious proportions..' The high retail price of butter iri ■Wellington—ls. 2d. .per lb. —is said to bo due to increased profit being mado by tho,'grocers. Wo.aro informed that tho'wholesale price is now Is. per lb. ... ! -
