WINTERING THE STOCK.
.. On all sides around Masterton (says our travelling /correspondent) the ..fanijers ; are pushing .on. with'all speed;'to, got - their, .land ploughed. A very-large . area has already been turned over, and considerable' breadths of oats are already well up and looking remarkably promising. Grass continues to grow, apace, though the .slight frosts may check it on the fiat lands. The great trouble will be, in many 'cases,, shortage of.' winter feed :. for' cattle. It ..is. greatly feared that' dairy stock 1 will come'in,'poor condition in the spring. Nono of us are too'old to learn, sirid the experience of 1908 should prove, to. many a farmer the absolute need, to provido whiter feed." A paddock of mangles,- and another of capo barley' would 'prove most I know of a few who have provided/this, 'and- they are facing the winter land early spring with light' hearts;-. They know their dairy 'cows will enter tho onsuing season in good condition, and give results which otherwise, would be unobtainable.
