MANAGEMENT OF CHILDREN.
I have read with interest a number of odda and onds lately in the daily papers bearing 011 this subject (writes "A.J.F., in the Syonoy "Morning Herald"), and one item I noticod more particularly was about the bring-ing-up of children without "don'ts" and "smacks." So this I read very carefully, hoping to gain some experience, but found no suggestion or advice to remedy the wilful little ways which seem to be the inheritance of most children. Now, when my baby wants to bang the lid off the silvor kcttlo, or explore under tho corners of tho wallpaper in the hall) I find it best to try and distract her attention by telling her to get dolly and take her for a ride, or to see if pussy is not too hot in the sun or too cold in the shade, and with some similar remark she genorally starts to investigate pussy's oondition, or look for dolly's go-cart, and the determination to do somo damago is forgotten. . To-night baby and I were alone, and having a long letter to write to a friend in a northern hospital, I hardly know what to do. The peas had to bo shelled for Sunday's dinner, _ so baby was perched up in daddy a armchair with a dozen pods split opou, and tho peas wero then transferred by . her with, much application into an eggcirp, which as' fast as filled I emptied into a basin. So my letter was written and baby happy. ; t wish' mothers would try to avoid tho hurried slap or rough word, and give a little thought to tho nature of tho child, which is not to destroy things but to investigate the wonderful working of everyday objects. i
