\osterday evening tho executives of . the Christian Unions of tho Victoria College and the 'Wellington Girls' College hold a reception for Miss. Rouse, organising secretary-of the -Union, at tho Girls'. College,' when a number of ; students, were present with their friends. 1 Professor Easterfield presided. Miss Rouse gave a very interesting sketch, of :hor' visits to tho universities of different lands, and ■ snoke of the danger there was lest,' with pride "of learning, girls should drift from their simple Christian faith. The object of the Christian ;Union is to encourage the growth of tho spiritual life side by side with intellectual development, and'to inspire the. students with-high ideals, and with a dosjro to'make the most of the opportunities their higher knowledge ' gives them for ; the service, of their follows. After Miss Rouse had ' spoken- several songs were contributed, by tho students, and by Mrs. Glo\cr Eaton, who sang Blumenthal's " Day Dream,'' and, as an encore, " Robin Adair." Miss M'Lean was ho/tess, and among those present were Mesdames Gibhs (2); Thornton, Hobyj Gib-son-Smith, and Gray, Dr. Agnes Bennett, Professors Easterfield and Picken, arid Mr.' Gray. - Mrs.. Glover ; Eaton, who, after.a residence of years in Now Zealand, is about to return to hbr homo in England, was on Thursday night entertained by tho members of the choir and' tho office-bearers of St. John's Presbyterian Church, where she has for many years boon tho 'leading soprano!' On behalf of the choir and qflicc-boarers, and in recognition of tho services sho had, so willingly -rendored, Mr. J. G. W. Aitken, !M.P., presented Mrs. Glover-Eaton/with a cheque.' The Kcv. J. Gibson-Smitli presided at the meeting, and during the evening -a musibal programme was rendered by Mrs. GloverEaton;'Misses Mowatt and Rash,: and Messrs. Pope and' Galloway.

Mrs. and Miss Cotter, of Groytown, have been spending a few days in Wellington, and returned to the Wnirarapa on Friday.
Miss Bremnor, from Waimato, is visiting friends in tho Wairarapa, and is at present tho guest of Mrs. C. Ilamsden, of Opaki.
