News from the East states 1 that natives ambushed a Dutch patrol at Klungkung, Island of Bali, killed an officer and four men, and wounded twelve. •. Bali, or Little Java, an island 70 mils long and 35 miles broad, lying cast of Java, is "one of the Dutch East Indies. The administration is in the bauds of a Govornor-General, nominated by tho Queen of the Netherlands, and ho is assistod by a Council, whose powers are, partly legislative, partly' advisory. Undor tlio Governor-General, tho administration ,is carried on by Residents and subordinate officers. The army, which .is purely colonial, numbers about 14,500 Europeans and 23,000 natives. .Tho cost of tho navy is borne partly by the colony and partly by tho Government of the Netherlands.
