RcFEREf-S' ASSOCIATION. Tho Hockey Referees' Association met last ovening. With regard to the proposal from Auckland that a confcronce of referees , should be held to secure uniformity in tho reading of tho rules, it was dccided to accede to the request. A meeting of.tho committee of tho Ladies' Association was held last evening, Dr.'lzard' occupying tho chair. . A deputation from tho Hereawa Club waited upon Dr. Izard, tho president of tho Ladies' Association, last evening, requesting further consideration of their appeal to tho eomiujttco to remain as a Junior club,'tho committee having decided to classify the Horeawa Club as a. Senior club. It was resolved at a meeting of tho comniittco also held last evening, at which Dr. Izard presided, to allow tho Hereawa Club to play as a Junior club, and tho Victoria Collego, who played them last Saturday, will count that match as their byo in this round, as will also all other clubs who aro drawn to play Horeawas in tho first round. Tho Hereawa Club's team will now play/Junior and thirdclass, instead of Senior and Junior. A movement is afloat to form a New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association. One of tho audience at Mr. Buddo's meeting at Kaiapoi last night asked tho member's help in checking tho practice of dressing fish at sea. "Nothing," ho said, according to the "Lyttolton Times," "will moro surely drivo fish away from tho coast than cleaning them at sea and throwing tho insides overboard. We know that as soon as tho head and entrails of fish touch tho bottom tho groper cease to bito." It might have been suggested that, the fish being undeterred by sentimental scruples, had too nuleh to'do to bother about bait, but the subject appeared to he a very.live one.
