FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. REPORTS OF;COMMITTEES. . The'fortnightly meeting of'the City Council'was hold last night. There were present: —Tho Mayor (Hon. T. TV. Hislop), and Councillors Luke, Cohen, Ballinger, Hales, Sliirtcliffo, Biss, Fisher, Carmichael, M'Laren, . Hindraarsh, and Morrah. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Smith and Fletcher. The By-Laws and Street Lighting Committee recommended That the application of Mr. T. Young for tho authorisation of a right-of-way off Taranaki Street Extension, to give , access to tho roar of shops in- Courtonay Plstce, ho granted, on'conditions imposed by the City Engineer; that the application of Mr. A. B. Fitehett.for tho authorisation of a right-of-way. off Ohiro Road bo granted, subject to'the conditions imposed by the City Engineer; that tho following lamps bo erected: JessieStreot, corner Fairview. 'Road, Plunket Street, and : Mitchell Street, Brooklyn, one lamp, each, Main Street, two'lamps ; that the decision of the City Engineer in refusing to issue a pormit for alterations to a .building at Ljttls Taranaki Street on account of tho proposal! not being in 'accordance with the By-laws bo adhered to. i; '.. , ' Tho report was adopted. ' The Finance and Property Committee recommended:—'That tho claim of Mr. James Reid for compensation on account' of tho alteration of the level of Goa Street and Mox-" ham Avenue bo riot entertained; that the sum of £50 be accepted in full,settlement of Mr. Bethell's liability under tho' bond for tho/construction of Konwyn Terrace, and, that tho bond be canccllsd. v ; The: report was adopted. ■ Tho Firo Brigades Committee recommended: —That' tenders- bo called for the work of additions to tho Newtown Firo Bri- ' gade Station, such tenders to bo ; in by June 4; that tho offer of Mr. Oatway to instal a fire alarm indicator ill the Central Fire ••'Station, free .offsost, bo'accepted; that FircmaU'Tait bo appointed to tho • position of firo inspector, , Tho report was adopted.. '• Tho Outlying Districts Committeo reported that they had visited the Crofton Downs Estate, and recommended that tho consent of tho Council be given to the construction ■of streets, subject to the alterations -required by the City Engineer, in con? nection with the approach from tho railway to the north end of tho ,estato 3 arid tho deviation roouirod at Whitton's Farm, all dotails in connection with tho construction of tho roads, drainage, etc., to bo carried out in' accordance' with the Council's requirements.. ' ;.
, Tho report was adopted.,' ■ The Power Stations and Tramways Committee recommended: —That tenders be'called for the supply of 50 ironbark, poles- for tho Tramway and Lighting Departments; that tho ; resignation' of Mr.' G. Townsend, accountant of tbo Electric Lighting Department, be accepted with regret, and that ho be granted one month's leave of absence, as from Juno '15. ; The report was adopted. ~ . " /•
