UNION COMPANY'S FLEET. ANOTHER SAILING VESSEL PURCHASED. i The " Sydney Commercial News "' reports that the negotiations that have been proceeding between tho owners of the well-known "Loch" Lino of sailing vessels and the. Union S.S. Company, havo terminated with the sale of tho Loch Lomond, now lying in ■ Port, Philip Harbour, but it has not yet transpired whether the Loch Lomond le used by her new ,owners as a "cadet" ship instead of the Dartfoi d, which was purchased a few months ago. It is tolerably certain, however, that, should tho company proceed with the proposed system of training lads in practical seamanship, only one vessel will be used for the purpose, and if the claims of the Dartford be considered greater than those of the "Loch" liner, tho latter vessel will, in all probability, be converted into and used as a coal hulk by her new owners. Tho Loch Lomond is ;-n iron barque of 1249 tons, having beeu constructed at. Glasgow 38' years ago. She is 226 ft. in length, 35ft. •Bin. in breadth, and has a depth of 21ft. sin. It is said that <£3000 is the figure at which she has changed hands. The sale of the Jjoch Lomond marks an important step in the'history of the "Loch" Line, as she is.the first vessel built for the 'line to which she belongs that has been : sold: Tho. Loch Rannoch' and the Loch Nevis were both previously disposed of, but neither of theso vessels was built for the "Loch" Line. The former, which was originally known as the Clanranald, was bought by the proprietors of tho " Loch " lino, and had her name_ changed. As .regards tho Loch Nevis, ■ Captain W. Bennett,,, who was associated with the "Loch 1 " Line "for many years, andihas its history at.his fingers's ends, states that the vessel never belonged to tho " Loch" Line, but to a well-known merchant of Glasgow. Mr. J. Mawson is to join the Taieri as chief officer, vice .Mr.. Williams, who proceeds to join the.Atua in a similar capacity. Captain Hutchings, took command of the Waikare at Lyttelton, vice Captain Bcrnech, .who left for Auckland by the Maheno on business. . Mr. R. Jones, .late of the Kaipara Head lighthouse, has succeeded Mr. Whymark, who resigned from the Somes Island lighthouso some weeks, ago. ■/•.

At 11 o'clock yesterday morning the 'Union Company's steamer Mapourika arrived •in Greymouth, and was expected to leave for Westport at midnight yesterday. She. is timed to leave Westport at noon toAlay for Nelson, and should arrive here from the latter port to-morrow morning.
