CIVIL SERVICE CLUB.

• The fourth annual report of the Civil Service Club states that "the membership now stands at-293, being an incroaso-of 34 for. the year. The finances 'of :tho club arc in- a highly satisfactory condition. ,In spite of greatly increased expenditure': upon honorarium .-(£so)i wages. (£176 to £2-17), , and library (£ll to £20), the committeo has been able to pay off the whole of the sum owing from last, year on the billiard tables, furniture, and general fittings,, amounting altogether to £160. Debentures to theVamount. of £45 havo also boon .redeemed; and £35 has been- paid on account ot the piano purchased during the'year. The items, stoclon hand, cash ,in hand, and outstanding .subscriptions* are in themselves sufficient to cover all the liabilities of the club, with the oxception of the debentures (£55), so that the club may bo regarded as possessing property to the value of nearly £500 absolutely free of debt. At' tho close of .last year the balanco of assets over liabilities was £190, so that., the committee feels that there •is ample evidence, of careful management during the year just ended. In accordance with instructions from the last general meeting, tho ;committee turned, its attention to the acquiring of new premises, and after a considerable amount of-, labour and time had been devoted to '.thi3- matter, an "arrangement was made with Mr. Kirkcaldio to erect premises. During the : year several billiard tournaments' and musical entertainments were held, all. of which were much appreciated, by members. Mr. George Griinstono, tlie club's representative in 'the Crystalate Cup competition, was again succcSsful in carrying off the cup and retaining the amateur billiard championship of Wellington. Should Mr. Griinstone win the competition this year, the cup -will become the-property of tho club.
