Ono reads a good deal at present of the 3 necessity of cutting iip the land for settlcr ment (writes our Wairarapa correspondent), ' but, if the district of Mauricevillo West is a fair example, the thing may be overdone. It- appears that Mauriceville, West was opened for selection by a Government into forty-acre sections. The idea has not been a success, and empty houses are numerous in that small district. The residents could not livo on their small acreages, and were forced to sell out.
