At the end of last week tho company dispensed with the services of a conductor, who . was given a week's pay in; lieu of notice, and no reason, for his' discharge was stated. The .Union ■claim that under the agreement under which the earlier troublo between employers and employed wa6 sottled, one provision was that in the event of a man being put off ho, should be entitled to know the reason, and if aiiy charge had been lodged against him.to have the option of bringing evidence in rebuttal. The Union oonsidere(l the present case, 1 and authorised'their secretary to interview tha manager (Mr. Walklate),, and endeavour, to ' obtain an explanation of why the'services of " the conductor , wcro dispensed ; \rith./ Mi', Walklate declined to say anything furthei than that the removal or engaging .of mot were matters entirely within the aiscretiqrv of tho management. Special meetings of tlii. ' Union to consider tho question have beei called for to-morrow. .' .
