Fowlds, will leave Wellington for Auckland on Saturdayand will address his constitu-i ents 011 Wednesday, May 27. » I Lieutenant-Colonel Hume, Inspector of Prisons, who is at present engaged on a tour of inspection in the South Island, ife expected to return to Wellington at thei end of the' week. , Messrs. H. G. Didsbury (manager of the Standard Insurance Company) and R. R. Smith ; (local manager of the Bank of Australasia) were elected members of the Chamber of Commerce, yesterday.: : ' The Hon. Dr. Findlay, Minister for Internal Affairs, having, been'asked to deliver a pplitipal, address at Wanganui, will leave on Friday for ■ that town, where he • will speak on, Friday' 'evening' on " Labour and the Arbitration Act." ' Dr. L., Cockayne, F.L.SI, returned from the South yesterday. He leaves to-morrow for the Government's experiment station at Ruakura, in the Auckland province, where he will make preparations for his scientific flax-growing experiments. he will visit'the Waeronga, levin, and other stations for the same purpose, probably returning to Wellington about the beginning of July. , ' . The, funoral of Mr. William John Fullford, father of Mr. A. H. Fullford, of Brooklyn, which took place yesterday, afternoon, was attended by a largo number of representatives of the building trade of Wellington city and. district. Among the numerous telegrams of condolence received by Mr. A. H. Fullford was one from the Prime Minister. The Rev. Mr. Walker, of St. Thomas's, officiated at the graveside at Karori. It is understood that Mr. A. Danby, who is at present . acting as Immigration Officer, will succeed Mr. March in that capacity when the latter finally retires from tho service at tho end of his three months' leave of absence)on July 31. It will not bo necessary to appoint a successor to Mr. March in his office of Superintendent of Village Settlements, as these settlements have now been absorbed in tho general leaso-in-perpetuity systom, tho tenants having completed' all improvements. •No new appointment will bo made, either, in tho office of Inspector, of' Workers' Dwellings, hold, by Mr. March.
