, TEIE YEAR'S WORK. . The annual report* of the committee of the F«ildihg"A. ana' P. Associationhas been issued; ;The,report',-states that the second two'days' show was held on February 4 and 5, 1908, and; taken as a whole, can bo considered Very' satisfactory. 'There was a very large attendance jbf, the public on the. second day, but the gate receipts; did not i seem proportionate to tho estimated number of persons'.'present, -the' -financial results _ being a great disappointment. : The ; 'entries slightly less than' last year owing to the' very dry 'season. ■ ■ The .quality - gener ally was very good,'. ; especially ,in ;■ the' dairy - cattle classes, Sheep, 'although "not. 1 so; numerous ;as': last year,'showed a vast improvement' in quality. Representatives of the committee arranged with the Manawatu Auctioneers' Association to receive a' percentage .of .the entry fees this year,' and a few pounds were netted ;from this source.'-Holding the-Ram" Fair immediately after the showvwas'considered beneficial alike to .the. : auctioneers';; and this . Association^ Eleven schools entered 'gardenSifor competition,' and' the judges,:- Messrs. Mayo '. and Weightinan,' reported a great' improvement. They .- suggested _ that flowers be' added as a competitive subject, and had -offered; special prizes.'. : : The : financial . position of : .the Association was satisfactory; The-sum of £194r195. 3d. had 'ibeen expended on permanent improvements, 'andi plant."'<■■ tThe' v assets. showedi £843 Bs. 7d". over liabilities, of which-£614 9s. 10d.wasjfor 'permanent yards-and '. pens.,:., Donations! had- fallen off about.;£so, but, still-; the item'.'i£3B2 155.->was • - very liberal,- -and-- the > -thanked those-; who contributed.' 1 : Members' ? subscriptions i' ; increased' by £33, ; and' the -amount realised 'for entry feeslwas .'practically on a par with':.last year.'t Past experience had shown Vthe advisability of continiunjg to secure judges from-the-South Islandf for . fat'stock-' classes, 'and the ""cornmitt^'.wished..to record their 'appreciation of the painstaking manner in 'whicn the judges transacted their business.'
