WOMEN'S PALACE AT FRANCOBRITISH EXHIBITION.
In the women's section of the profit. FrancoBritish Exhibition, which will ho opened hy the King and (lie French President, who will be acrompanicd liy the Queen and Madame Falliores, in M;iv (writes the corros* pondent of tho Sydney "Daily Telegraph "), every phaso of women's work will ho represented —from tho beautiful arts and crafts to tho culinary skill of jam-making, preserves, and pickles. There are in all eleven classes, and already hundreds of applications have been received from intending exhibitors. Tho Women's Palace, in which tho array of wonderful exhibits will ho arranged, is of chaste, and beautiful design, tho centre domo being flanked by two ornate towers, and tho interior will be equally beautiful and unique. Adjoining is tho superb Indian Court, which is a faithful coyy of tho famous Oudi Poor. For some months past an influential executive committee has been working indefatigably for the success of tho women's section. Lady Jersey is the president, and tho committeo includes women representatives of every phase of women's work—racial, industrial, and philanthropic. Headed hy tho Duchess of Norfolk, the committor includes tho Duchess of Beaufort, tho Duchess of Marlborough, tho Duchess of Devonshire, the- Duchess, of Rutland, and the Duchess of Roxburgh. Lady Aberdeen and Lady Crowo are'also members. Mrs. Ogilvio Gordon represents tho International Council of Women, Mrs. Humphry Ward and Mrs. 'George Cornwallis West tho realm of literature, Lady Strachoy .and Miss Emily Davies education and municipal .work, Mrs. George Cadbury philanthropy, and Mrs. Oscar Beringer the stage.
Of peculiar interest to the women of all who will pass through tho portals of the, Women's Palace during the coming months will be the. loan section, classed under "Historical and Hero will.be found the beautiful enamels made and lent by Princess Louise of Schleswig-Hol-stcin; tho carriage in which tho veteran nurse,. .Miss Florence Nightingale, drove about tho Crimea; mementoes of Jenny Lind and; Elizabeth Fry. There will also ,bo a gallery of historical pictures, arid' international historical records of celebrated women. The Royal School of Art Needlowork will. be_ largo exhibitors of embroideries and tapestries, and they are preparing a special design, from Burne-Jones for the - exhibition. Enamels, modelling, carving, motalwork, cartoons,, artistic posters, printing, and wall papers aro all included in this section, and opportunities for sale will bo given to tho exhibitors. Pictures and sculpture from' loading-women artists, photographs, stained glass—a growing' industry for women—inventions, nursing, laundry work, cookery, and philanthropic work are all included, each under a separate class, and will prove a valuablo object lesson of the manifold gifts of women.
