CHARGE OF STEALING s CIGARETTES. ' . Napier, May 15.. At the Hastings Police Court 'this morning a lad was* charged with stealing 1000 cigarettes; the property of Charles H. Hawkins. Defendant pleaded guilty to taking 200 cigarettes, but said he had no knowledge of the rest. From , tho evidence of J. H. Edmundson, manager, of' Mr. Hawkins's motor garage, it appeared [ that the firm imported 20,000 cigarettes in, March. Carnival Committee to-day an interim balance-sheet was submitted, snowing that the receipts" of the carnival amounted to about £2000, including about £900 in guarantees and donations.
